Hi guys,

I need some help with customising my Nexus. I was looking at different launchers but they kind of ruin the feel of the Google experience, they don't feel as integrated as the stock launcher. I know the best way is to use a launcher but is there much I can do without one? I've looked at Nova launcher and Apex launcher so far.

Something like this, I like the way the icons have been resized (is this a custom launcher?):

Also is there any benefit to rooting and installing a custom ROM like Cyanogen on a stock android device? I heard you can save a lot of battery, which is a concern of mine. Also I like how cyanogen changes quick settings too. But is it worth installing on a Nexus?

Finally does anyone have suggestions for how to save battery life on the Nexus? Apart from the usual turn off all the sensors not being used and stuff? I have enabled ART as well on the Nexus.

Thanks

Would it be worthing running a custom rom or is it better to keep it stock?

custom roms for the Nexus 5 have pros and cons

pros:

tweaked battery and performance

custom features pertaining to the custom rom

typically since most are Cyanogen based, you always get the Cyanogen features if it happens to be Cyanogen base which it most likely will

root access lets you be the system admin of your phone, root apps are amazing

cons:

you won't get the latest updates from Google

things can break if you use nightlies

you are going to have to back up regularly if anything goes wrong when you tweak things on your own
