Big SSD or Small SSD+HDD

TomasFr

Hi

So I am building a computer and I want an SSD but I don't know if it's better to get a 120gb SSD and a 1tb HDD or go for a single 500gb SSD.

I don't have the budget to spend more than a $90.

What is best? Any feedback would be very much appreciated!

ssd plus hdd

you can always add more ssd in the future so just go for a high quality 128gb from a reputable manufacturer and throw in a wd blue

Pretty cheap and known brand. Is it good?

Kingston Ssdnow A400 120GB SA400S37 / 120G SATA 2.5quot = $31

Is this better?

Kingston UV500 M.2 SSD - 120GB = $37

Luke is kinda right, IMO.  Tho 500GB may be a might large, unless you really put a lot of programs on.  Then I'd go 1TB SSD cuz games LOVE being loaded fast, just ask them.

Honestly, if you can afford it, I'd only use HDD's for servers where speed doesn't impact anything (Plex, etc.)

120GB SSD is too small.  Go 240/256GB, Windows and programs can grow.

You can get a 240GB SSD for those prices TomasFr is quoting.

I suppose, but if I only download games I play often on the SSD and when I get bored of them I redownload them on a bigger HDD I should be fine with 120gb?

How big is windows 10?

Edit: Or I could add another SSD later?

Do you have a PC right now?  See how much space is used on it,  that'll determine your needs.

Windows 10 for me on my work machine is 80GB,  It has a 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD.  I only have Windows 10, Office 365, Steam and a pdf program.

I wouldn't go 120GB again, 240 or more is the way to go.  Plus it's cheap, I am not seeing the issue here?

As for additional storage, you can go HDD or SSD your choice.  I was just stating my preference.

My computer takes 300gb with inly a 1tb HDD.

I think I'll end up with a 2xxgb after all.

Thanks for the help!
