MB+Proc for gaming?.

Gobolino

Hi!!!

I'm currently using an FX8320 with a GTX1060 and I'm planning to update, but I don't know if I should go AMD or switch to intel.

I'm planning in these 2 setups (It's most probably for gaming, and I eventually want to "update" the graphics card but I'll keep it for now).

option A:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

MB: MSI B450M Bazooka

Mem: Crucial DDR4 8Gb 2400MHz Ballistix

SSD: Kingston 240GB SATA3 2,5'' A400

HD: Seagate 1TB Sata3 7200 rpm 64MB Barracuda

Cab: Deepcool Kendomen Red

Power: Deepcool 500w 80+ Bronze DA500

Cooling: Corsair WaterCooling Hydro H60 2018 version

Paste: Artic Silver Ceramique 2

v/s

Option B:

CPU: Intel CPU Core i7-8700 3.2GHz

MB: MSI M/B Intel B360M Bazooka

Cooling: Deepcool WaterCooling Maelstrom 120K

Everything else it's the same.

- Yes, Watercooling even if I don't plan to OC because the place where I live BURNS every summer. (literally, most of the time).

My other option for the MB is this one:

MSI M/B Intel Z370M Mortar = That cost about 40% MORE than the Bazookas. (Though it seems it only goes for the intel one).

- I'm mostly tied with these 2 options, as even if I find in amazon or something a lot cheaper, the delivery AND the tax, it's prohibitive.

- I'm also concerned about the Power, would it be enough?. O.O

I'm sorry for the lack of information, don't know what more to say. =)

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!. =)

Since you are worried about temps, it's worth noting that the i5-9600k CPU has a soldered TIM (much easier to cool and doesn't need a delid), vs the 8700 where you'd have to delid and put liquid metal to get similar cooling through its lid.

Not to mention that the K variant would support overclocking that you wouldn't get by buying a B360 motherboard (so a Z390 would be more ideal for it).

Yeah but you'd only get 6 threads instead of 12, for gaming its enough, but if you want to stream...

Watercooling won't help you if you're outside temp are raising also since it needs ambient temperature to cool the water.

Get a Crucial BX/MX 500 rather than kingston A400 if you have the money.

For gaming 8700 would killed 2600 easily, but at a hefty price.

But for everything else, it would be just the same.

500w is enough.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

not that either is all that great........ the 2600 is colder than both

For pure gaming Intel 9600k is just straight up better, see: benchmarks.  Especially if ever planning to upgrade to a better GPU or doing 1080p/1440p resolution.

I know it has a good performance in games, but like i said, since he's not just gaming, i don't think it's a good choice. But i agree it has an excellent performance, and like you said a better TIM.

Oh, THANKS FOR ALL THE ANSWERS!!!. ?

- I'lll stick with 1x 8gb ram because the MB only has 2 and I'll eventually would get another 8 one to get 16... but not now. =(

- The only PSU I found of that list it's a Seasonic 650W Focus Plus 80Plus Gold SM

- Replacing the SSD too. ?

I'll put a total number this time:

INTEL option:

CPU: Intel CPU Core i5-9600K 3.70 GHz 9MB

MB: MSI M/B Intel B360M Bazooka

Mem: Crucial DDR4 8Gb 2400MHz Ballistix

SSD: Crucial SSD 240GB Sata3 2.5" BX500

HD: Seagate 1TB Sata3 7200 rpm 64MB Barracuda

Cab: Deepcool Kendomen Red

Power: Seasonic 650W Focus Plus 80Plus Gold SM

Cooling: Deepcool WaterCooling Maelstrom 120K

Paste: Artic Silver Ceramique 2

v/s

AMD option:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

MB: MSI B450M Bazooka

Mem: Crucial DDR4 8Gb 2400MHz Ballistix

SSD: Crucial SSD 240GB Sata3 2.5" BX500

HD: Seagate 1TB Sata3 7200 rpm 64MB Barracuda

Cab: Deepcool Kendomen Red

Power: Seasonic 650W Focus Plus 80Plus Gold SM

Cooling: Corsair WaterCooling Hydro H60 2018 version

Paste: Artic Silver Ceramique 2

Now:
Intel i9600 etc etc setup: U$ 1028 dollars and 16 cents. (I'll say it like this because there's always a confusion here between "," and "." that we use differently). =).

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 etc etc setup: U$ 946 dollars and 97 cents.

PS: Worth mentioning that if I go with the i7 8700, it's U$50 dollars more.

Same different between the motherboards. (B360M+$50 = Z370M in Intel, and the only option in AMD is the B450M)

For high refresh rate gaming yes. If he only plans on using a 60Hz monitor then it won't matter.

PS: Oh, I'm ok with 1080p and a 60Hz monitor... I'm honestly too old maybe to catch the difference above that. xD

The way you're going about memory should be examined.  Not using dual channel memory will hurt performance (gaming and productivity) with either build but will hurt the worst with the Ryzen build (Ryzen wants/needs memory bandwidth so Dual channel and speed DDR4-2666 (or ideally DDR4-3000 or higher) is a must!

It really doesn't cost that much more to get DDR4-3000 memory prices are more sane now than they've been in years for that stuff.  If you insist on not getting 16GB right now it's actually a much better idea to at a minimum get 2 x 4GB sticks and run them dual-channel.  If you're averse to doing that, then don't ruin your new PC performance in the hopes of buying more ram later, just get 2 x 8GB of DDR4 and be done with it.  When I bought my upgrade to a new I5-9600k, mobo, and RAM (just a week ago) I pony'd up for 16GB knowing that's what new games call for now (it's even in the system requirements, showing up more and more for recommended spec).
