Service host high cpu usage

So my pc has been getting slower recently, naturally with age (it's 7-8 years old now) but recently it has slowed to a crawl, one of the main culprits appears to be service host, there are several, 9, 14, etc. But there is always one on my pc that takes up at least 40% cpu and ram usage, just on its own.

 

I disable them, obviously, and nothing changes, pc works completely fine, so they don't appear to be critical.

 

How do I stop them from getting to 40% in the first place? Is there a fix? I tried googling it, but none of the "fixes" were really applicable, or worked.

 

Also, does anyone know what might have caused it? The only "major" change I did was *ah hem* legally acquiring a game, however it was  fitgirl repack, known (at least to my knowledge) for being completely safe.

so.. besides you working your way around saying you downloaded  game..

 

few things here:

- which hardware?

- which operating system?

- have you in those 8 years scraped any dust out the cooler(s)?

- have you ever done any sort of software maintenance on it? (disk cleanup, uninstall software you dont use, disk defrag..)

GTX 970 HOF

8gb Corsair DDR3

MSI z87 G45

 

Windows 8.1

 

IIRC windows automatically degrags hard drives every week, last time I opened it thats what it said anyway

 

I have cleaned out the dust, once, it's pretty bad in there I won't lie, but my temperatures are always below 50, so I would assume it's not thermal throttling.

 

What else is there I can do on it to prolongue it? I know there are a few more inbuilt windows tools but I can't remember their names.
