So after 2 years i want to swap all my hardware to a new case. I am migrating from 750D to P400S. I will also be adding 16 more GB's of RAM (old sticks are 2400, new ones 3000 so i might want to OC the old ones to like 2666) and i bought new thermal paste from Corsair. My questions are should i be resetting any settings i have before migrating, and what is a good maintenance routine to have in mind both for software and hardware? I know i am not really taking care of my PC and i would like to change that as well as learning a bit more about Computers in general.

Thanks

Buy yourself a DataVac. It's an air duster. Use it once a month or more if needed to blow out the dust bunnies in your case. There's also an ESD safe one but I have the non-ESD safe one and I haven't had a problem. Then wipe down any fans you have with a damp paper towel or something if they've gotten a thin layer of dust. That's really about it for hardware maintenance.

Software maintenance... I haven't really seen a need to do it anymore. I don't think CCleaner or similar is necessary (just run Disk Cleanup on the C:\ drive once in a while if you really want), most apps these days update themselves or notify you there's an update, I don't believe in always updating drivers unless it actually fixes a problem, and Windows does a lot of maintenance stuff in the background during downtime.

yes. btw we have a very similar primary pc. what are your thoughts on your keyboard?

Oops, I posted that GIF in the wrong thread.

Anyways, my keyboard is great, It's got 6 macro keys and 3 profiles, and each macro can be assigned to do an infinite number of things. The build quality is great throughout the whole keyboard, but the glossy finish does pick up dust quite easily. Cherry MX Browns are great, and they're suitable for both gaming and typing. They're not the most tactile switches ever, but still one of my favourites. I keep the lighting on my keyboard off, but there are like 5 different brightness levels or something. It's quite a big keyboard though, and takes up a lot of desk space (leaving less space for my mousepad). I got it for $60, and I have no regrets buying it. The only that I hate about it is that it has this orange thing on the left side of the keyboard that ruins my setup colour scheme.

As for your actual thread, my PC is hella dirty and I maintain neither software nor hardware, so I can't give any suggestions lol.

My PC gets no downtime. I rarely even put it to sleep. Does a hair-dryer work, or is it too strong?

Downtime just means anytime the PC isn't doing something that's a heavy workload. If you're browsing the internet, that's considered downtime because it doesn't take much power to browse the internet.

A hair-dryer will work only if it has a choke on it, otherwise the air pressure won't be enough to actually do anything.
