I have a Raspberry Pi NAS that I set up recently, and I'm having difficulty connecting to it with my Windows 10 Desktop PC. It keeps giving me this error message:

I have enabled all related services and am able to connect to a shared folder on my Windows 10 Laptop from my desktop. Speaking of my laptop, I am able to connect to my NAS with such as can be seen in the screenshots below:

I am also able to connect to the NAS with my partner's Macbook and my Android Phone without any issues. I am certain that I am putting in the correct network address as can be referenced in the image below from my desktop:

At this point I have no idea what to do, and I'm honestly just tired of networking with Windows. I'm setting up a dual boot for Linux with my desktop, but I'd still like to resolve this issue because it'd be a pain to have to boot into a separate OS whenever I want to access my server. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the compressed images.

check if the IP address is resolved : ping 192.168.0.18

If resolved but still unavailable, in raspberry disable firewall and enabled samba file sharing

Also is RaspberryPINas your folder name or the name of the device?

If its the device name, Don't put it after the ip address, it does the same.

RaspberryPINas is the network alias for 192.168.0.18

It's the name of the folder and the device.

I tried this on both my laptop and my desktop. On my laptop, all 4 packets were instantly returned and the ping was successful. On my desktop the ping request timed out and was unsuccessful with all 4 packets. My laptop is connected over wifi, while my desktop and NAS are wired via ethernet into the same switch. And as I said before, I can access files from my laptop via my desktop. Any other troubleshooting ideas?

And thank you by the way.

You could try disabling your desktop and router firewall to see if they are interfering.

I don't think the router is at fault, but maybe the firewall works differently for the Ethernet and wi-fi.

It's not a race to the bottom.

Thanks for the advice, but no dice, I got the same error message. This absolutely baffles me. I'm setting up dual boot tomorrow, I'll see if that helps. It'll determine if it's a windows or a network issue.

I would think it's a Windows problem.

Networking is not my forte so I'm not able to help much.

However I would guess (again, no forte) when you're typing your location Windows is looking at its own table instead of the network.

This table is corrupt and instead of then looking to update it, it instead is spitting out an error message.
Corruption within networking is pretty common especially with LAN. The networking setup that Windows uses is very old and just has new features patched onto old programming.

Find someone who can help you to clear out your network settings.

Windows actually wound up uninstalling itself despite not having any corrupted files. I installed Ubuntu, backed up all of my personal files, and then formatted my boot drive so I can truly install windows from scratch. For networking, it is an absolute nightmare to use compared to Linux.
