So M.2 is a physical connection. TL;DR It can support (Usually) 2 standards. mSATA and NVME. mSATA is basically the same as any SATA port on your motherboard whilst NVME uses your PCIe lanes to have faster storage.

 

The PC Mate supports NVME drives but I'm not sure if it supports mSATA.

Personally, I would recommend a Samsung 970evo in whatever capacity is best for you.

I have a 250gb 960 evo for my os and frequently used games and programmes.
