On my Ryzen 5 2600x, if i leave it on auto with his PBO and the balanced power plan, the temperature spikes from 42C to 52C every few seconds while i'm not doing anything on the PC. It goes to 52C, then slowly drops to 42C, then back to 52C and so on.

If i switch to Power Saver, it stays at 36C.

Is this normal? Should i be worried? I'm running the stock cooler with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

44c-53c is around normal temps on normal usage, if you using the stock cpu cooler that is fine, you should start worrying at 70c+. you can also look if amd is "smart overclocking" you cpu.

you can also "tune" you cpu cooler for a more aggressive cooling curve so it can be cooler if your doing overclocking (useful in certain things)

What do you mean by "smart overclocking"? And about those 70C, if i run prime 95, after just a minute i get to 80C. I was afraid to let it run for more than a minute. :)

Yeah, the fan curve is set so that is not really annoying, but not silent also.

90c is the max temperature, are you using the stock heat sink you got from it when you purchased the cpu?

ouch, if you can ever spend 80$ and less try to get a after market cooler it will help a ton for your cpu for most of my build i use the Arctic Freezer 33 eSport twin fan, and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Thermal Grease.and it has no problem doing around 500mhz to 1.8 ghz over clock if your lucky.

How warm does it get under normal workload? (whatever you're workload is)

I didn't test it much, i just installed it like 2 days ago. While gaming (Shadow of the tomb raider), highest temp was 66.5C.

The "idle" temps are what worry me.

My 2700x runs idle low 30's sometimes high 20's. when playing CSGO sits around 45-55c.

I do use an AIO cooler and have it OC'd.

I mean unless your temps don't go above 80 continuously it shouldnt be too much of a worry.

It doesn't. Even with prime95, i get around 80-85c. But i know that's not a realistic test. In gaming, i don't go over 67-68c, no matter what i play.

It's just idle, it stays at 42c, 7-8 seconds later, jumps to 52, then slowly comes back down, and keeps doing that forever.

I'll get an aftermarket cooler anyway. And i'm gonna change the mobo, that'll help with temps as well.

@Attitude12

Those temp spikes I also had. I believe thats how Ryzen PBO works. since I have OC'd it it doesn't spike anymore as it always runs at set speed.

Yeah, it's the PBO doing its thing. I guess i got nothing to worry about.
