i just built a new pc in coolermasters h500m case. this case has a usb type c 3.1 port on the front of it. i have a galaxy s8 and when i plug the usb in i can choose on the phone what i want to be made available to the device, all files, just images or just for charging. when i choose all files windows tells me the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. when i choose just images it lets me right in and i can see all the images i want and browse around all the folders, but only images are displayed inside of them even tho i know other things are inside too, i guess this is no surprise. the rear type c 3.1 port on the motherboard does work, and my laptops port works too. i did buy another more expensive cable that is known to be legit just to absolutely eliminate the cable as a suspect, both are 3 feet long.

when i go into device manager and show properties it sais this when connected to the front panel connector.

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A device which does not exist was specified.

the driver shown is the exact same regardless of witch port it is plugged into so it cant be software right?

how could i go about narrowing this problem down further? i know its either the port on the case, both ports on the motherboard(it does have 2 and i tried both) or the wire in between them. i just dont understand how the front port could allow image data to transfer but not other data, it is so strange. ive went into the bios and looked around but found nothing obvious, it is a mystery.

the motherboard is a msi meg ace z390
