Mismatched RAM help/discussion

Hi everyone,

I am unfamiliar with this board, but am a fan of LTT and figured this would be a good place to ask my questions. 

 

I have two (1,2) different sets of ram in my setup. I have not encountered any problems, but I am wondering if going with one set or configuration over the other would hinder or improve performance in any way.

My mobo is a MSI gaming m5 z170a and I have had the RAM configured two different ways, but I cannot tell any difference in the two configs. The original was (G=gskill C=Corsair) G,G,C,C and the current is C,G,C,G in accordance with the ram slots 1-4 on the board. To be clear, I am not trying to run all 4 sticks in xmp as I feel that would probably be ill-advised.

 

Corsair 2x8GB

• DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)
• Timing 15-17-17-35
• CAS Latency 15
• Voltage 1.35V

G.SKILL 2x16GB

• DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)
• Timing 15-15-15-35
• CAS Latency 15
• Voltage 1.35V

I think I've included enough info to get the conversation started, but I'll try to be prompt in filling in any additional info.

There is no difference.

Only difference would be if you removed the 15-17-17-35 set and ran your ram at 15-15-15-35 but then you're locing a ton of ram for an insignificant performance difference which is impossible to notice.

Would it be better or make any difference to go back to having the 16gb sticks in slots 1 and 2?

No, just keep it as is.
