My monitor is acting weird

Kohtalox

I recently bought an Asus ROG Swift PG258Q 240Hz monitor, and it has been working fine, until today. Today there has been a couple occasions where the screen would start flicking between showing an image and a black screen, at the same time it the power light would flash orange.

In addition to this, I have noticed that when I go into the monitor's OSD settings it would show '1920x1080p @240Hz' in Windows, but when I go into Overwatch it shows '1920x1080 @144Hz' is this a problem, or is this because I have G-Sync on but the game doesn't always run @240fps?

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I have resolved the issue in Overwatch, for some reason the game reset the resolution to 1920x1080 (*144Hz) guess I need to set that file to read-only.

Using G-Sync will lower your fps by about 10fps maybe 15fps at maximum.  Since there is discrepancy I would just not use g-sync if your monitor has option to turn it off.  The reason G-Sync can be good for you is when your framerate drops below 240fps ,,,,,,, like to 150fps or even 100fps.  If you have consistent locked fps then no reason for G-Sync as it will do nothing.  If I were you I would just turn on Vsync and call it a day and turn off G-Sync if the monitor has that option.

Thanks for giving me some info about gsync, but unfortunately you have completely missed the point of my post. I was not asking about gsync, I was asking whether there was a reason for my monitor to sometimes flicker to a black screen until I change the input in the OSD.

Well desktop settings and gaming settings are two different things.  Can I ask what OS your using, as this is a common problem with Winblows 10 after the 1809 update.
