Apps losing configuration?

Go to solution Solved by SethFox,

Issue resolved by removing the appdata content and installing the PTB version for a bit, then going back.

So, I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place, but, lately whenever I've been booting Windows 10 (Pro)... my apps (like Discord, Chrome, even some games) lose their configuration, and require me to re-login to the app. (UPlay does this as well.)

I've tried looking online but I can't seem to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

There may be a file type like .config that Windows is blocking. I'm not sure how to check, but I know it's possible. For example, a lot of schools will block .bat files.

Well, just for information purposes this is my home PC. It's strange that it would block these things suddenly.

Sounds like programs can't save their settings. Commonly they are 2 places that program uses to store settings: C:\Users\<account name>\AppData\Roaming and in the registry for your account (for per user configuration settings). There might be a permission issue that have occurred.

Did you use any system tweak utilities at some point? This might have screw things up. Sadly, many of them are not well coded, despite their popularity. Some are open source, but poorly maintained. You have to be careful with those.

Do you recall doing anything before this problem appeared? Knowing what was done can help us know how to undo any damage.

The only thing I can think of is using Driver Booster. I did not install Advanced System Care or anything that would've affected the registry or anything like that. I actually just reinstalled Windows not too long ago (everything is up-to-date including drivers).

TBH I legit have no idea what's going on.

Edit: Since this post, Driver Booster has been fully uninstalled.

Well, you would be wrong, because it is.

Don't mind his reaction. Relation is not causation, of course, but there has been an increasing amount of people having system problem after installing Driver Booster. I don't know why. Maybe I should look into this, to see if really it is related or just coincidence.

I am on go now, but if you want to try a quick solution, make another account and see if the problem is gone.

Hm, good to know. I'll keep it off my system for now and just deal with the issue of having to re-login. The only real solution I can think of is to reinstall Windows again, and while I could do that... I don't really want to.
