Fan control

I have set up the fan control settings in the Bios, those are fine. If I use splitters, will I be able to control the RPM or only the %? What will I see if I have 2 fans connected to one control header? The RPM of only one of the fans or will I see nothing?

Sorry its in german. those are 3 of the 5 fans. the rest are also 120mm with 1200 RPM.

This was answered in your previous thread.

If you're using 4pin pwm fans, split them off of the cpu_fan 1 / 2 headers. If 3pin fans, split them off of the sys_fan1 header.

Hi all,

I am a bit frustrated with my fan setup. The problem is, that my pc is too loud because some fans are running at 100%. The only good thing is that my Hardware is running idle at <50C ?

Here is the thing: I learned that my MB (msi h87-g41) has only 3 controllable 4-pin headers, the other 2 headers only run the fans at 100%. One of the 3 controllable headers only allow minimum 50% fan speed...

Right now I have 5 120mm and 1 CPU box fan. 1 back case, 1 side of case, 1 front, 2 top

on the 3 controllable headers I have plugged in: CPU, side case and 1 top.

The 2nd top fan, back fan and front fan are not controllable and running at 100%.

So how can I connect the fans to run low on idle and only speed up when needed (temp goes up)?

Do I need to use a splitter? If yes, will I still be able to control the RPM or at least the Power%?

My idea was to use a splitter for the 2 top fans and one for the front and back fans ?

I dont want to spend a lot of money for some fan control hardware... also I must mention that 3 fans are LED Fans, not sure if that affects anything.

Thanks!

My Setup:
CPU: i7 4790 @3800 MHz, MB: MSI H87-G41, Grafik: Gigabyte GTX 1080TI, RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3 (1600), Storage: Samsung SSD 850 Evo

If the motherboard fan header can control the fan, the same fan can be controlled on a splitter.

Having your fans ramp up with temps is a matter of setting a custom fan curve in the motherboard settings.

What fans do you have? If you're not sure of the model name, post some photos of the fans and check what type of fan header they use.

Oh your right, sorry! Thanks alot again. I will buy those splitters and see how it goes.

@WoodenMarker

may I ask you a question about my airflow optimization or should I open a new topic?

Ask ahead. :)

wow thx :)

So this is my case:

Spoiler

605557_0__35984.jpg

Like I mentioned I have 5 Fans (all 120mm): 2 at the top, 1 on front, 1 on the side and 1 on the back.

Right now the Airflow is:

Front - Intake

2 at Top - Outtakes

Side - Intake

Back - Outtake

I am unsure if this is a balanced airflow or if the outtake is too much. I have a feeling that the fan at the front doesn't provide enough intake for the CPU since it is blowing trough the HDD Case which only has some slim slots for airflow ?. Also the Fan at the side blows directly onto the GPU which I dont think is too good...

I am thinking of turning the back fan around or maybe add an intake to the bottom of the case?? any ideas? :/

many thanks!

What you have is fine.

The side fan provides fresh air for the graphics card and is a good thing. If you're concerned about your cooling look at your temps.

Maintaining positive pressure is just a matter of running your intakes at higher rpm than the exhausts and the only benefit of doing that is to reduce dust accumulation from air seeping in from unfiltered gaps.
