Hey everyone!

New here and to networking and hardware, so please excuse any dumb questions!

I just built my first PC and have been considering streaming; however, my wifi seems to sporadically spike and drop.  Even outside of the streaming thought, its pretty annoying!  The router in our house is down a floor, from my PC and I'd guess about 40 feet away.  I wanted to upgrade to a Nighthawk router, but it turns out that my current router doesn't have an ethernet cable, so I can't directly upgrade the router.  Looking at the box downstairs (don't know what its called, all the coax cables for internet and TV come out of it), I don't see anywhere I could install an ethernet cable.  Any suggestions on coax based routers, or perhaps a way in which I could install ethernet?

Oh, I have 75Mb/s up and down by the way, Verizon Fios.

Thanks everyone!

You have Fiber internet, congrats you win a free internet :D.

The "Box" is call an ONT, coax from that should be split to each TV and to the Moca Router Verizon uses. You have a few options, firstly you can see if Verizon will activate the Ethernet port on the ONT as it should have one, I guess if you have 100Mbps internet or above they use Ethernet instead of Coax for internet. OR you can buy a wireless access point, which should be able to connect to a Ethernet port on the moca router you have some wheres in your home. Alternatively you can try using moca yourself to your computer. Though Im not 100% sure if you would need two adapters as the router uses moca as well, so thats something that would need to be researched.

As it stands you WILL not find a coax router out in the wild. Ive only heard of very few providers that use them. OH and dont mistake Moca routers for Docsis Cable modems, because yeah, a Cable modem wont work.
