First post: Hi :)

So I've been having some trouble with temperature with a recently built system. I've been hitting some excessive temps (90-100c) with my 9700K at stock settings using a Corsair H115i (with MX-4 thermal compound and 2x ML140 Pro White LED) whilst running Aida64, Prime 95 26.6, CPU-Z stress tests. I did try messing with some overclocked settings, which did drop my load temperatures to 85-95C when running Aida64. 75-85C with CPU-Z.

I've tried reseating the CPU cooler multiple times, but nothing has changed.

The H115i is from a previous build, but ML140s are new (and beautiful). I'm starting to think they may be the problem and intend to swap them with the original SP140L's later tonight or tomorrow.

I read somewhere that you should plug the ML140s directly into the motherboard instead of the cooler itself. I've ordered a PWM fan splitter and some NT-H1 thermal compound which should arrive tomorrow. I'll try that out tomorrow.

Specs:

CPU: i7-9700K stock settings

Cooler: Corsair H115i w/ 2xML140 Pro

Mobo: MSI Z390 MPG Gaming Edge AC

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x8gb 3000mhz

GPU: MSI GTX 970

PSU: Corsair AX 760

If you touch the tubes, can you feel the pump moving liquid?

Last time I checked, yes. You can also hear a noticeable difference when you switch between quiet or extreme mode on the pump in iCUE.

I'll be home in about an hour so I'll be able to double check.

I just worked on an i9 7940x system, overclocked it on the H115i and max temp with CPU-Z was 85 ish. Something might be wrong with your airflow, what's your case and fan configuration?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

NZXT H440 New Edition, and 3xML120 intake, 1x ML120 Exhaust, H115i w/ 2x ML140s top exhaust.

Case was carried over from previous build, but the fans are new.

Wait, where is the radiator then?

At the top, exhausting.

Ah, so then it doesn't seem that there's any turbulent air at least.

I've switched out the ML140s for the original SP140L's and I'm getting 80c on Prime95 with a motherboard preset overclocked on 4.8GHz.

I'm disappointed that the ML140's are the problem. They're beautiful ?.

E: May have spoke to soon...

The temps were as reported when I had radiator resting outside the chassis, resting on top. Now that it's inside the case, with side panel off, it's a different story.
