Hey there.

So I got an old PC, decided just to upgrade it. Most because it's broken, almost.

While installing a game which takes about 8 GB, processor goes up to 97%, setup is done 1/3.

And then this PC either freezes or I'm getting a BSOD.

I thought maybe it's old HDD, but no it was not, then I was thinking about ram, just changed them to 4 GB of adata DDR2 ( 800MHz)

Same thing. Well now only CPU is left. So I'm going to change it, now I need help to decide which one to go.

Here's the list of my motherboard supported CPU's. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K9N-Neo-V3.html#/?div=CPUSupport

This old PC is running:

Gigabyte GT 220 OC. ( Ikr it's an old card, so is the pc )

ADATA 2x 2GB DDR2 800MHz RAM.

~160GB hard drive.

MSI K9N Neo V3 Motherboard.

I don't remember CPU but it's ATHLON 64 II X2 series, I can't look it up now because I don't have that PC at the moment.

If getting more in detail how this PC is broken, then it started on launch. It freezed on windows desktop.

Got a lot of BSOD's, then I decided to completely wipe and format my HDD and install windows.

I did that, from 64bit Ultimate went to 64bit Home premium. Now it freezes I think on a hard use of CPU.

What kind of budget are you working with?

Well AMD CPU Desktop Athlon II X2 265 (3.30GHz,2MB,65W,AM3) here costs 195 LTL = 77.0445  USD.

Which is kind of cheap, so budget for CPU could be around 100 USD, but I think you can't get a cpu for this old motherboard that would cost about 100 USD.

Thats what I was about to mention. You can pick up a mobo that would be a major upgrade from that for around 70 then 70 for the processor too. Pretty sure you wouldnt be disppointed. Gonna go ahead and say if you would put 200 into it the performance increase would be greatly noticed.

I was pretty happy with the performance on use before PC used to crash.

So basically I need just to fix it and maybe just get a bit more powerful CPU. I know you want to help me improve it completely, and doing it the best way but, could you just tell me which one of those compatible CPU's  is the best?

Athlon x2 6000+ is your best bet, if you can find one cheaply.. Its the best CPU on that supported list in OP.

Athlon x2 6000+ ebay search gives this- http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=athlon+x2+6000%2B&LH_PrefLoc=2&_sop=2

^ Throw on a Great CPU cooler, Overclock to 3.4ghz if you can manage it, add an SSD (even with restricted speeds its faster than mechanical drives), and your good to go. :)

Could you just tell me which one of those compatible CPU's  is the best?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The problem is not finding it cheaply, the thing is that it was out of stock in two good E-Shops in my country, but I'll try searching in not so known E-Shops in my country.
