Building my first gaming PC. Please help.

junkiephar

PC is going to be primarily used for FPS Gaming. My current console favorites are Overwatch, Destiny 2.

I'm primarily looking for 60+fps gaming (for the first time, coming from console). Also looking to click on more heads using MKBD as input. Not looking for a crazy build since anything decent would be a significant upgrade for me. Definitely not looking for the fancy RGB stuff since the PC will be underneath desk.

Budget is $1000-$1200.

I'll be purchasing it in US.

The following is the PC Partpicker list. I just started with an Intel build on their forum https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/PRXscf/excellent-intel-gaming-build and modified from here:

Questions for me are:

  • Can you guys suggest an air cooler alternative to the AIO one? Since this is my first build, the Youtube videos for installing the CoolerMaster AIO is little overwhelming and scary. The difference between an air and water cooler as far as I understand is not a game changer, please correct me if i'm wrong.
  • If you guys recommend using an AIO and I install it on the front panel of the Tower, should I keep the front cover open always?
  • Is the ASRock Z390 a good motherboard. I couldn't find much reviews for it and found a review from Hardware Unboxed that all the Z390s are bad. Can you guys suggest an alternative if it's bad.
  • Do I need a 650W PSU?

TIA.

Personally I'd go with the above AMD build as you've got more GPU horsepower.

Sorry I'm a complete noob here, but I read somewhere that AMD is meant for streaming/workhorse/video editing PCs and gaming's goto should be Intel. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

@LukeSavenije Thanks for your help. Actually picked the CPU cooler from your build, since the red and black looked cooler and the NZXT H500 has a black/red Tower, planing to go with the theme of black and red. The G.Skill Aegis has a red/black as well. This is how it looks now

Can you recommend any cheap gaming keyboard/mouse? Not sure if I should get the mechanical/normal or the RGB ones. Can I get any decent mouse + kbd for less than $100? I'm little above budget already so trying to squeeze in.

Also,

I have this monitor already https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dell-se2717h-27-inch-ips-freesync-gaming-monitor,4859.html .

These are the specs Max Resolution & Refresh 1920x1080 @ 75Hz

Panel Type & Backlight IPS / W-LED edge array

Screen Size & Aspect Ratio 27" / 16:9

Will this work over 60fps? As far as I understand, refresh rate is independent of the frames and a 60Hz monitor is capable of going upto 60fps. But I don't understand the concepts of screen tearing and GYSYNC vs VSYNC issues.

not a ryzen fan? fair enough

I would swap the board to a z390 aorus pro for a way better overclocking and general experience

you could swap the 860 evo to a mx500, both are about the same and normally the mx500 is a bit cheaper

I would get a b/g/n/ac wifi card

I thought the windforce cards were non-a chips, but i'm not sure...

you want to use a 1080p display with a 2070? that's overkill...

the consept of screen tearing is that if you run at a higher framerate your frames might look a bit like this (not exactly, this an extreme example)

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor screen tearing

gsync is the best out of the two, but really expensive. you could get a ryzen card if you want freesync

@LukeSavenije Sorry I'm a complete noob here, but I read somewhere that AMD is meant for streaming/workhorse/video editing PCs and gaming's goto should be Intel. Please correct me if i'm wrong. I'm okay with Ryzen or Intel, doesn't matter to me until they are compatible and are within my budget of $1300.

If I swap out to Ryzen, will this be still valid "z390 aorus pro" ? From your list you had suggested "AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor" . Will they both go together?

I'm definitely staying 1080p, no idea to upgrade even two years down the line. Someone had suggested 2070 for futureproofing. If 2070 is meant for 4K I would happily bump it down to 1070/1080, reducing my cost.

Is this the MKBD you are suggesting?

true, but with a 2600 (gamingwise about a 8400/8500 for intel) will give you the possibility to go from a 2070 to a 2080 inside that budget...

z390 doesn't work with amd. the fatal1ty and taichi are really good boards for ryzen

THE 860 evo 500GB is on offer for $74.04 after tax. The MX500 M.2 comes to $69.92. Saving some money here, but do you recommend the M.2 over SSD?

btw, i really really appreciate your help here. thank you so much.

a series chips are higher binned chips with more overclocking potential, lower voltages, so lower temps at the same frequency.

doesn't matter that much, as both are sata. what about the 2,5 inch version of the mx500?

2.5 inch is literally the same price as M.2

With your build, can I swap out  2080 to 1070/1080 then since I'm not going to exceed 1080p gaming, which one among 1070/1080 would you suggest? What does TI vs non-TI version of them add to it?

i would suggest getting the 1070 ti then, with a 5 second oc you can get it at 1080 level.

you could get the evga gaming, asus turbo, msi aero or the founders edition, but you should add a cooler on it then

the zotac amp! series, evga ftw and sc, gigabyte windforce and aorus, some pny cards, some kfa2/galax cards and asus dual, celebrus and strix cards are good examples of 1070 ti's

i personally have the sc black acx 3 from evga, love it

Thanks a lot @LukeSavenije ! you've been great help.. Probably i'll replace the 550W with a 650W just for a little futureproofing and having an extra bandwidth. Again thanks a ton for your help, much appreciated.

I saw the supernova g2 on sale at newegg. 750 for about 40 dollars I thought, you might want to look into that
