The back of my router has lan1-lan4 gates/ports on the back , and a usb gate/port . When i tried to connect the lan1 through an ethernet cable to my laptop , it would connect to the internet but it wouldnt get in any site whatsoever...

Not only that but my other laptop that was connected wirelessly suddenly also couldnt get in any site and there was a yellow tringle mark in the internet icon..

Any leads ?

You're connected to the router, but your router isn't connecting you to the internet. Does this happen when on wireless? And have you tried switching to a different port i.e. 'lan2'. Usually I have this problem when I've ballsed something up in the configuration of the router.

I'm going to post a little website I found that can help you try to debug otherwise I'd end up writing what they have here. https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solutions-to-fix-ethernet-connection-issue/

Essentially: Try different port , Update your network card driver, Turn off an antivirus / Firewall temporarily to see if that fixes it, make sure ethernet is enabled which you do by pressing 'Win+R' (windows key) or get to the 'run' command line which you do by typing 'run' into the search bar at bottom of windows 10 task tray. Then type in 'devmgmt.msc' which is 'device management' Click on 'Network Adaptors' and make sure that the network adaptor underneath that is enabled. Just right click it and press 'enable' if that's an option.

Edit: Try brwainer's method before going through this as that's a more likely culprit :)

When you unplug the wired computer from the lan ports, does the wireless computer start working again? If so that it soubds like your wired computer is statically set to the same IP as your router. You should change your wired adaptor to “Obtain automatically” for both IP and DNS. Here is a guide, except on step #5 you would be choosing the other two options: https://kb.netgear.com/27476/How-to-set-a-static-IP-address-in-Windows

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

Ok, so please check the IP settings of your wired connection.
