Hi Everyone,

 

As my company planning to change SSD from consumer grade to enterprise grade, we would like to do some test on the reliability of these SSD.

 

Thus, we have ordered the following SSD:

  • Samsung SM883
  • Seagate Nytro 1551
  • Intel S4510
  • Micron 5200 Max

All these SSD has its own advantage:

  • As Samsung, are the only SSD with MLC V-NAND Flash, as MLC endurance should better than TLC.  
  • Seagate Nytro 1551 with its exclusive DuraWrite Controller, after Seagate Acquired SandForce
  • Intel S4510 are very cost-effective with comparable price
  • Micron 5200 Max with highest MTBF and TBW but it is the most expensive drive.

However, as we are still very new on SSD. We have runs out of ideas to find the best way to test these SSD.

 

Thus, do you guys has any ideas on how to test the SSDs? And do my statement of advantage correct for all the drive?

Deploy them and use them as normal. There is no real way to test these (other than just outright writing to them constatly, but thats not gonna do much in terms of reliability testing). Your best bet is always to either have a RAID1 in place or some other form of redundancy (like ZFS).
