Hi All I have had a boot issue with my computer today and, went through all the trouble shooting stuff. Including fixing the MBR and boot repair. Thinking that my boot loop issue was hard drive related. However after fixing those on the next boot it appeared to start properly though not actually getting there. It restarted it self and got the normal post tone then only static on the screen, not black and white but a R,G,B multicoloured static. After that Nothing I have tried has got it to display anything other than that. both with and without a GPU in there, I had removed all but my OS drive to try and solve the boot issue. I am down to one stick of RAM that I have swapped with another stick. I have also removed the GPU to try and even just get to the BIOS. I have also tried clearing the CMOS to try and get it down to bare bones just to get it to start.

I have never seen anything like it before having worked on many systems and many failures as well. If anyone has seen this before or knows of a fix that would be appreciated. Although its an old system due for an upgrade I dont really want to fork out for a upgrade early. I am also trying to track down a PSU to test if its a PSU issue.

Anyway any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Could be the board, yes. Low end boards like this with uncooled VRMs don't like FX 8-cores. These boards are designed for a max TDP of 95W and the 8120 is usually 125W. Over time this can really cause some damage.

well it worked well for nearly 7 years so I am certainly not complaining.Though now to complicate the issue I successfully got it to boot after changing the HDMI cable as a last ditch "well I haven't tried this yet" admittedly without the rest of the mass storage or GPU. I then did the same with the GPU in it. next boot after that same symptoms are back. You are quite right that it may well be the VRMs though I don't think they would realistically come back to life randomly then go back to sending garbage to the screen.

The system was having a hard time booting so perhaps it was that there was some MB supply issue.
