I need some help setting up my sub, I've got an 15 powered sub I use for parties at home and i've got two litle 8' powered speakers. I want to set up my sub so that it plays the low frequencies. About 100hz and below. I've got a sub output on my motherboard and the realtek software plays audio on it but any other app/music/video only plays sounds only on the two 8' and none on the sub. I've set it up on windows so that it's a 5.1 without the rear speakers and the sub is center & sub at the same time. If it's of any help i've got an h370 aorus g3 wifi.

If your motherboard is like most of the ones I have used then it can auto-sense what is plugged in. So if you have it set to 5.1 and it isn't seeing 3 different connections (FL + FR) (C + S) (RR + RL) then it is probably reverting back to 2.0.

I haven't ever just plugged in a powered sub to my pc so I can't be of much help here. I have used 5.1 and 7.1 surround pc systems. They all seemed to work correctly, but those connections are all made normally to the sub and then it passes the signals out to the speakers as needed. I have also used a receiver (my current setup) where I pass the audio via 4 connections to the motherboard. Then the receiver handles the rest.

Don't have time to look as much as is needed, but you use to be able to get a 3.5mm male to  L R and S. It basically was just a normal L R stereo connections, but had an extra output that combined the channels for the sub port. So it would work well in this scenario.

this is a wild shot BUT.....i have 2 12" subs and had the issue where the subs wernt working....it turned out it was the subs auto off. and every time the sub shut off realtek stopped detecting it so wouldnt send a signal to turn the subs back on.
my only fix was to go with a receiver because my subs didnt have the option to always stay on
