8TB WD from amazon issue

Hi, first for some reason my account has been deleted?

I had to recreate it to create this post.

Anyway my question is i got a 8TB from Amazon in 2017, wd mybook 8tb, i use it since then but i just noticed i'm running out of space, it show on the my computer win 10 that it's 8tb and 271gb left free.

But the thing is when i open that drive and show hidden files then i select all and click properties it says i'm using only 1.5tb...

What is going on? I empty the trash bin and it's the same...

How many files do you have? What is cluster size?

 

Try a reformat of the drive.

I checking the file count now, but where i see the cluster size?

oh nevermind, seems like the file count while selecting all the folders didnt finished to count because i'm doing it now within 1 folder inside that drive and its getting more than 4tb so i'll check that out, thanks

fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo [your drive]

thats a lot of files.you can lower the amount of wasted space if you put them into a single zip file or simmilar.

Ok thanks but i use theses files, zip them would make it a pain...

I will wait more but why does the select all then right click then properties shows almost nothing as far as space used compared to when i select all files within 1 folder that has 4.5tb inside it? while the select all folders of that drive show 1.5tb...

There's too much folders or something? Both seems to stop around 52k folders...

That folder that has 4.5tb in it show 4.5tb if i select all folders in it then properties but it show far less if i right click that folder then properties...

Ok there is something i must be not understanding properly... it seems all the folders that have many folders and files inside them show way more space used when i select all files within them compared to when i just right click that containing root folder and then properties...

This is another folder in that 8tb drive:

If i right click the folder then properties : 547gb

If i select all inside that folder and then right click properties: 1.5tb

I'm using windirstat free software, works a LOT better
