Help with ram

I have corsair 1x8gb 3000mhz ram, if i get 2x4gb 3000mhz also corsair, will it work

As in you're trying to use 3 sticks of RAM?  Or you want to replace the current 1x8 with 2x4?  

 

If you plan on using all 3, it would probably work, but probably won't be a significant improvement.  To my understanding, if I'm wrong I hope someone will correct me, but if you run an odd number of RAM sticks it will run in single channel.  I believe you'd actually be better of just using the 2x4 on it's own because you'd be able to get the full performance out of them by running dual channel.
