Headphone recommendation

I am looking to buy a new pair of over ear headphones as well as a new pair of IEMs. My budget for the over ears is between $100-150 US and my budget for the IEMs is between $50-75. I am seriously considering Audio-Technica ATH-M50s
for the over ears but I'm open to other options. For the IEMs I don't have a clue what to buy. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Do you prefer open or closed for the over ears?

I am used to using closed but I am okay with using open as well. I don;t have an overwhelming preference for either one.

I have heard that the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 isn't very comfortable. BUT I don't own them so I could be wrong. Check the reviews on amazon.com. Just my 2 cents.

For the time being the M50 is a bad value, and there are other headphones that represent a better value.

I have a pair of Westone UM1's for a while and they're quite good for the ~$70 price tag for what they are. They sound great for vocals but the trebles roll off very early and the bass extension isn't the greatest, so if that isn't your thing, the UM1's may not be for you and you may want to consider options like the Klipsch S4 or the Creative Aurvana 3 instead

Shrue SRH440's are an amazing value (can't stop recommending them, got them on friday, loving them, went from M50's to these). If you can, get the pads for the 840's too, they fit on the 440's and they imrprove bass, comfort and isolation. 

 

Sony MDR V6 or 7506.. or you could see if you find the Beyerdynamic Custom One pro at a discount.
