P55-GD65 and ECC memory.

Hayman

Hello,

Sorry if this question was already answered somewhere but I personally couldn't find anything. So I am an owner of an old P55-GD65 motherboard. That's LGA 1156 socket. Recently i bought a Xeon X3440 and even though this is a consumer board, the server CPU is working flawlessly and I am happy with it. The thing is that 4GB of memory that I have is not enough for me. I was searching for some cheap deals for memory and noticed that ECC memory is significanlty cheaper than "normal" sticks. So here is my question: Will it work? I know that you cannot run ECC memory on a consumer CPU but since i have a Xeon will it be possible, or maybe I need a server motherboard aswell?

ECC memory will work as long as it is unbuffered.

It will only function as a normal stick without ECC in a consumer board.
