Help with my configuration

Dear tech enthusiasts,

A couple of years back I've bought the HP 15 ae123nd laptop with a 4k screen, i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M. I thought those were pretty good specs at the time for a laptop. But when I bought it I immediately saw some drawback with especially the performance aspect.

Recently I started watching Linus's channels on YouTube and started to focus more on what could be wrong with my laptop. So a week back a downloaded cinebench and my results with this particular laptop are around 170. To my knowledge, which is considerably low, I think this still is a REALLY bad score for theses specs. So this is the reason I'm making this post. Can you help me giving your expertise and experience to solve my 'problem' with the performance on my laptop. How am I able to fix this or make this better? Have I just been unlucky with a bad CPU or is there some other issue going on?

Please help,

Thijs

What model Core i7?

Lower end CPUs will do worse in Cinebench.

Looks like a i7-6500U.

OP, this is a dual-core, low-power mobile chip. Don't expect great CPU performance. If you want it to feel faster in daily use, buy an SSD. Also, a fresh reinstall of Windows and/or removal of excess background programs should help speed it up as well.

sounds like overheating. Check temperatures with say, HWinfo in sensor mode for CPU cores. 170cb is even worse than dual core i7 U suffix CPUs, which can do double that.

Yes it is. There also is a 256 GB SSD inside. For daily use like doing stuff for college it's fine. But when like for instance streaming a movie or even watching YouTube in full screen there is an unbearable amount of lag, and I don't know why.

Pretty much. You can also use userbenchmark for testing against others if you want to. I got a lot of troubleshooting solved with it, by only checking some results

So I did this and now I'm getting a result on cb of 300? I also saved a log of the HWinfo, but it looks a bit weird with the allignment and stuff? From what I could see my max temperature was at 87°C.

That's a bit high on the temps. I would look into undervolting it a bit, and trying some stress tests.

CB of 300 is right around average for this chip. You have nothing to worry about.

So what is the problem with the laptop with for instance streaming in full screen it get's really laggy? IS this beacause the integrated grapics aren't made for 2160p? BEcause then it seems like a reaay odd choise for HP to sell a configuration like this?

So after some time playing around with XTU, I'm now at -0,090 V and still going lower. But I noticed that the program changed my max core frequency from 3,00GHz to 2,50GHz. This doesn't seem to be the thing I wanted because now my cb benchmark is 106. Should I go up again or am I missing something I haven't changed?
