After the latest update, my windows defender has started to behave oddly.

it is blocking a lot of my software to access files in the hard drive, along with all the games in my steam library.

I have not changed anything after the update which would have triggered this.

please help!

You could disable the protection, and that would solve the problem (theoretically). Although if you choose to do so and do not have another computer protection software such as one from a reputable brand like Norton of McAfee then, proceed at your own risk as your computer in general could be compromised by an attacker. Otherwise, there could be some security settings within the software which you could change to try to prevent the issue, seems that all of the settings for security must have been put on max which could block other programs, you may want to consider changing this or, what I would recommend would be changing to a better anti-virus software such as one from McAfee (which is the one which I currently have on my system) and that should offer better protection and likely not block other software on your system is the settings are left as of those when installed from them.

Hope this information post was helpful  ?,
