Posted December 12, 2018 TL;DR I need a good book to read. Long: I'm not a HUGE reader but I do enjoy philosophy & different thinking. I recently read Slaughterhouse Five, Roadside Picnic, The Social Contract & loved all of them. Other books I've Read and liked: Spoiler War as I knew it-Patton Warrior Series-Erin Hunter (Children's books I read a long time ago) The War on Alcohol, Anarchist's Cookbook (Didn't really like. Rather childish and tasteless), Brave New World-1933? (Collection of short stories.), Various Programming Books (Not interested in getting more. I have a lot.) Some books I have that I am going to read include: Spoiler Various Warhammer books-Black Library Anna Karina-Leo Tolstoy, Several Solzhenitsyn books, The Art of War-Sun Tzu, Practical Psychology, Himmler, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich-(196X), Steal This Book 1984, Animal Farm, Metro 2033, 21 lessons for the 21st century I'm not interested in WW2 books. I've heard more than I want to about it in firsthand accounts. I don't want any social issue books. It mentally drains me to hear about various people's oppression or struggle. Nothing with a curse in the title. If you have to curse, you're not interesting to me. No feel good/life advice. As long as my income is greater than my outgoing money, I'm doing well in life. No modern politics. It's not the end of the world. Though serious conspiracy books on aliens or ghosts are exceptions. Whether they're complete rubbish or not, they make persuasive arguments that are fun spooky stories. Some books I've considered asking for: Spoiler Tale of the Troika-By the Roadside Picnic guys, Leadership: In Turbulent Times-Doris Kearns Goodwin, Some books I've seen highly recommended but don't know if it's worth reading or just popular because reasons: Spoiler Sapiens (Supposedly recommended by Bill Gates & people, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (If it's fiction I'm not interested. I've enough Sci Fi to read.), Educated-Tara Westover, A tale of fire/ice (game of thrones) - if it's as sexual as the show I'm not interested, Necronomicon (Is it just edgy? I'm not a daemon worshipper but if it's interesting...), Library Book-Susan Orlean, Subjects I would like some recommendations on: Spoiler If someone could recommend books with proper military tactics & strategy outside of Military Manuals freely available online. (All US Army manuals are legally free online.) Pre-history, Long Term European History (If you had a good textbook I'm interested. Start right after the Roman Empire to present or up to WW1. If it goes back further, I'm into it.), Roman History, History about something unique (Tell me something I don't know. Is there history on ancient South America? Tell me a good book on it!) Firearm designing/engineering (I want to design a gun. Eventually I will get an Engineering Degree but I'm in CS rn and going to work in that field before going for that degree.) idk if there's a book club thread, but if you guys have other books that are good, recommend some with a 2-3 sentence max summary. 5 is too many 4 is REALLY pushing it. EX: Spoiler Roadside Picnic-Down to Earth Soviet novel about Aliens coming to Earth & never communicating with humans. The places they went are called zones & have supernatural objects in them that scientists research. Romeo & Juliet-2 kids of opposing gangs fall in love. They have a forbidden love. Warriors (Erin Hunter) - Cats live in the forest as different clans. Follow along the journey from the viewpoint of a cat.
