Memory is cheaper in Canada!

Had to buy a few sets of DDR4 for some boards I purchased recently, and since I'll be heading back to the US for christmas I figured I'd compare prices on memory in the US and Canada. 

 

Turns out that if you compare the same sets on amazon.ca and amazon.com, then often come in at about the same price +- $10. For example,

173 USD.

 

173 USD = 230 CAD. 

 

Therefore that memory is $57 CAD cheaper in canada. That's.... significant. If anybody here often travels back and forth between the US and Canada, consider buying your memory in America's tophat. 

 

I made a few other comparisons and the results were extremely similar.

Meanwhile in the UK the same RAM is 387 CAD.

Edit: I said the wrong price. It's actually 259 CAD. This is why you double check what RAM you're actually looking at.

Ew, are the prices for the rest of computer components similarly overpriced? 

 

EDIT to your EDIT: Yeah funnily enough, each "color" of that ram is a different price, some of them are significant. I really wanted the white/silver but it was super over priced compared to the black/silver.

Depends what you're after really. RAM is kinda expensive but everything else is sort of middle ground really. 

If it's a Haswell i7 build or an AM4 Ryzen 5 build you'll still end up paying £800 at least for a good computer. That's 1,350 CAD.

That's the complete opposite in the UK. You'd be paying 193 brexit money/327 CAD for the black/silver, and this time I did get the right price for the RAM.

Interesting, I wonder why the ram prices are so different for each country. If the trend continues, it's make sense that a country with a weaker currency would be able to buy memory cheaper than a country with a strong currency. CAD is worth less than USD which is worth less than a GBP.

Yeah it's a bit weird considering the fact that RAM bought in Australia basically comes from the same factory as the RAM someone else could've bought in France. They come from the same place yet have different pricing.

I mean usually I'd blame taxes, but the difference here is too severe (and taxes in canada are worse than the us so it doesn't make sense.)
