I am making a PC for a friend, budget is 1300. He will be using a 4K monitor, so I was going to get a ryzen 5 instead of an i5 or i7, to keep costs down. What do you guys think of this list? Also its $50 dollars over budget, maybe I can get a cheaper MOBO and use the stock cooler for now.

Your build is pretty good, however I'd swap out this motherboard for a Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming (which only costs $10 more than the Strix B350-F).

You can cut down the total cost of your build by buying 8GB of RAM right now, and adding another 8GB after saving up some more money.

I own a z370 Asus prime XD Not doing a lot of overclocking though. Anyway, you think the 2600 would keep up? Also I forget if games need more then 8gb these days to run 100% smoothly (I play weird Minecraft Modpacks that use insane amounts of ram)

What about the MSI B350 PC MATE AM4? Its about 84 bucks.

OP is already over budget. So suggesting a more expensive motherboard (minimal benefit) at the expense of ram (more than minimal benefit) seems misguided.

The $90 Asrock fatality board should be fine and doesn't require OP to sacrifice 8gb ram. Also the only real difference between b450 and x450 chipsets is multi gpu support and occasionally better vrm, and in my experience ryzen is clock limited and more power dosent fix that.

He will NOT be doing any overclocking, and probably does not have the best browser tab management(like me). Also is the asrock board or the MSI gaming mate an okay board?

I don't have any experience with msi motherboards. I do however have 4 systems currently deployed with Asrock boards (Am4 and Intel systems) that are all running without issue.

As for wifi, a pcie add in wifi card is generally going to increase cost less than a motherboard with onboard wifi. Tp link usually has a card on sale on Newegg for under $30

I was wondering, could any of you give me advice on how to mount the GPU vertically? The h500i seems to have a bracket included.
