Hello Guys,

I'm looking to overclock my PC even though a little bit to see how much performance more I can get from this hardware.

Below you can find the hardware i have:

Operating System: Windows Home x64

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz  . With a Hyper 212 EVO for cooling.

GPU:  GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

         image.png.44dc686395b19de29f3510cea564689b.png

RAM: 16,0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1064MHz (15-15-15-36)

      image.png.31632bbe15a5de97658a4d2fb311b39f.png

Motherboard:

What do you recommend me starting with? i have never done OC on any of my PCs and don't want to break it since is the only one i have, so that's why i came to the LTT forums since i have been following this channel for years now.

Thanks a lot in advance

Fernando

You aren't going to do any overclocking because you have a CPU with a locked multiplier and a motherboard which does not support overclocking.

Thanks for your quick response.

That's is what i tough but, i have read that even not being a K processor there were ways to do so like flashing a BIOS to the Motherboard.

If it is completely impossible, is there a way to increase the performance by touching voltages or anything like that?

No not really. Even if you find a custom bios or anything like that I would discourage you from flashing it.

You CANNOT overclock your CPU. It is IMPOSSIBLE. You do not have a “K” next to the i5 6500 meaning you are not able to even if you got a motherboard that supports overclocking. If you really want to overlock, you can overclock your GPU!

System

  • CPU
    I7 6700K Overclocked to 4.6 GHz at 1.33v
  • Motherboard
    Asus Z270 PRIME - A
  • RAM
    GSKILL RIPJAWS V DDR4 16GB 3000MHZ
  • GPU
MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G overclocked to 2063 MHZ and 8900 MHZ memory clock
  • Case
    NZXT S340 RED
  • Storage
WD 1TB BLUE AND SAMSUNG EVO 250GB SSD
  • PSU
    EVGA 650W GQ
  • Display(s)
LG 25UM58-P ULTRAWIDE and LG 29UM58-P 29 ULTRAWIDE
  • Cooling
    CORSAIR H100I GTX
  • Keyboard
    CORSAIR K70
  • Mouse
    LOGITECH G502 PROTEUS SPECTRUM
  • Operating System

Hello laushik,

is there a way to know if it my system has a bottleneck? i mean, just to see if the CPU can handle the GPU OC?

Thanks a lot.
