Greetings everyone! I am attempting to set a custom lock screen for my windows 10 machines. Unfortunately, no matter what I do Windows 10 takes over and blows the lock screen image way out of proportion. For example, I am using a test image, and it blows it up from 500x500 to well over 3500x6500. I cannot find a setting to force windows to accept my input for image resolution, I have done the 'edit photos' and maintain aspect ratio via paint. I've spent several hours already fiddling with it and I am not getting different results. Does anyone have any ideas?

huh?

So you want to set a lock screen image. Windows 10 will scale the image. If you want a sharp image it is best to have the lock screen image to match your screen aspect ratio and resolution (or be greater than, in which it will scale the wallpaper down) The options you mentioned in Paint, is not information stored in the image... Standard image files (PNG, JPEG, BMP) only contains image data itself (compressed in the selected format) and meta data. It does not carry any restrictions or options for a program to apply.

Keep in mind that the lock screen image applies ONLY to the current user, and not all users. You need to set a group policy to force the lock screen image to all users, and it only works for Enterprise, Education and Server edition of Windows 10.

For right now, I would like it to fit the screen, unfortunately it doesn't do that, no matter what size the image is. I have tried various formats and sizes, windows wants it to be larger than the screen for some reason. Once I can figure this out, I can push it down to the server, I'm hoping that I don't need group policy to force windows 10 to stop automatically scaling the image.

Don't be, you didn't know. That is fine.

One can argue that because you options on the account desktop wallpaper, that one would have the same options for lock screens, but Microsoft didn't implement that. Probably they thought that people would not put text as part of an image, and that the user will more put high resolution camera images which just needs to be scaled down and have some smoothing filter affect. It doesn't help the fact that when you unlock to enter your screen the wallpaper becomes blurry.
