MS word dictation working when microphone is disabled

For privacy, I disabled the mic and webcam on my 2018 lg gram.  As I was using microsoft word, I decided to test dictation to see if the mic was actually disabled.  To my surprise, dictation worked!  Does anyone know how this is possible?  It is very concerning, as I would really not like to have an always on microphone and webcam.

It depends on how you had disabled to mic and webcam. If you had removed the drivers then it should be foolproof, although if you had just disabled them MS Word may have turned it on itself when told they needed to be used. A foolproof way may be to disable the drivers for the device. Removing them would not work as they will just be reinstalled on the next boot. If you really want them gone and dont want them used ever again, you may have to outright remove the physical device.
