Hello, im iphone 6 plus user. Choosing a smartwatch, hate Apple watch for screen size and battery life. Looking for Galaxy Watch, but afraid of locked features. Looking for garmin fenix 5x, 5x plus looking too expensive but have maps. Any other suggestions?
I'm  a student who goes for a walk + pushups+ bicycle+longboard. Maybe sometimes go swim in summer.

But what about battery life?  And square display?

I got around 2 days out of my series 3 and the 4 is even better, the square display is better for smartwatches. I've used both an apple watch and a galaxy watch but the apple watchs screen is significantly better for just about everything (except looking like a traditional watch which I dont care about). The square display gives so much more usable space for reading notifications while the rounded display on the galaxy watch cuts off a lot of information on the top and bottom.

You'd want a Fenix only if you're deep into the stat tracking for fitness.  That is, you're the sort who's interested in factors like oxygen volume and cadence.

I'm a gym regular and use the Apple Watch for fitness.  It's not as thorough with fitness as some Garmin watches, of course, but between the built-in apps on the watch and the Health app on the iPhone there's a surprising amount of data it does track.  Active/total calories, individual workouts, heart rate and heart rate recovery, maps for outdoor activities, some VO2 Max data... and yes, you can track cycling and swimming workouts in addition to other activities.  It's good for giving me a sense of my overall activity and motivating me to stay active.

The main reason I'd recommend the Apple Watch over the Garmin lines (and, for that matter, virtually every other iPhone-ready smartwatch)?  Because it's a better all-round smartwatch.  Yeah, it might not process as much raw fitness data as a Garmin watch, but it's much better for notifications, apps, watch faces, case and band customization, mobile payments, music... you get the idea.

Yeah, you may not be used to a square display on a watch, but it's honestly better for smartwatches.  Get a variant with a sweat-friendly band (like the Sport Band or Sport Loop that comes with most models) and enjoy.  You can still snag a Series 3 if you think Series 4 is a bit costly.
