Hi,

I want to build a Dual or Triple Gaming setup with unraid for actual games (like Battlefield 1). My old Setup with a single FX8350 did not worked well with this?.

Im thinking of a Dual Xeon setup with LGA 1366 or 2011.

but i cant find a Motherboard wich can handle 2x Intel Xeon X5680 and 2/3 Graphiccards.

I hope someone can help me to find some hardware, my budget is around 400 Euros (for the motherboard + 2 cpus), by the way Greetings from Germany?.

I already have:

Harddrives: 2x SSD 120gb, 2x HDD 3TB (and some other one)

GPU:1x GTX 970, 1x GTX 770 or an AMD RX460 , 1x GTX 1050ti

RAM: 32gb DDR3 (4x 8GB 1600MHz non-ECC)

PSU: 1200W

Thats gonna be a pain for that price. Boards from that era arent cheap, esp good ones that support passthough.

ID really just get a few used systems, that will have a better gaming experience and much easier to setup.

Why unraid? Id use anouther hypervisor with more options like just kvm on fedora or proxmox.

Where can you get used parts from?

What formfactor for the motherboard are you looking for? You can get some old server gear for very little money, but you might have to work around some weird proprietary formfactor. I reccomend you check out gekko-computer.de or servershop24.de , they sell used servers and components

@fabafaba

The form factor is not important for the whole because I want to build my own case for it.

Oh nice sites thx.

@Electronics Wizardy

I've worked with unraid before, and the user interface feels good.

The price, i found used hardware with 1 x5680 and an motherboard for around 300€ so that should not be the problem.

I think its also possible to connect my Grahpiccards to some x8 pice slots.

but i want to build my own litte "gaming-server" where i can play over Steam-Inhomestreaming.

I can get used parts mostly from ebay.

Passthrough is kinda a pain, id stay clear if you can, multiple desktop seems like a better solution here to be. Lots of these older boards just aren't made for gpus

Unraid is missing lots of disk options and vm options that make it a good vm host, id personally look elsewhere, but it will work.

you can get a board like this and give it a shot, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-S5520HC-5500-Chipset-Dual-Socket-LGA1366-ATX-Server-Motherboard-I-O-shie/123478419998?epid=74111538&hash=item1cbfe32a1e:g:K6YAAOSwlzZbKooP:rk:3:pf:0

but there is no garantee passthough will work and what the iommu groups are like.
