I don't think overclocking that i5 CPU is pointless. There have been reviews showing that the i5-8600k doesn't actually fall far behind the i7-8700k.

I do agree that your GPU is what will hurt your 144hz gaming the most. I also pulled back on the GPU for my first build and it sucks. I was at least glad to not be using processor graphics anymore but after like 6 months you're wondering why you spent $250 for less than 60fps gaming (5 years ago). I didn't really make a good GPU choice all around. Didn't go the extra step and paid almost full price on an older GPU.

Also you are going to want more than that SSD for storage. And because the majority of your games will actually be on the HDD make sure it isn't a bad HDD. Doesn't have to be a huge HDD but has to transfer data fast enough to not punch your monitor after 5 minutes.

how is i5 oc useless you can get 5ghz from it which is just more free frames

yes and only if you get a much better cooler, delid , higher quality mobo etc you may get near 5ghz, but with that much cost invested in OC, Id rather stick with i7 nonK at stock and better parts

It's a budget PC, the guy is at $800 not $2000. i5-8600k is like $150 cheaper and MAYBE 8% slower. Gaming doesn't require 5.0 ghz clocks. FPS is so prominently on your GPU that almost all other components equate to 10% of your frames. You practically just need any CPU in the last 4 years in your motherboard (if they were universal) and RAM could be bottom of the barrel and your frames would be still 80-90% dependant on your GPU.

My non-delided i5-8600k with a 240mm AIO OCs to 5ghz absolutely fine. Stop talking shite.
