ASUS PG35VQ (3440x1440@200hz)

alexiacat

So this monitor is coming out... Some time i guess...

I’m just wondering if displayport 1.4 can carry that much bandwidth, 3440x1440 HDR at 200hz, or if ASUS is waiting for HDMI 2.1 to come out for this monitor’s release. I may not have the model right but I think it’s the PG35vq. Also I want to know would a gtx 1080 or rtx 2080 be good enough for it or should I get a 1080 Ti/2080 Ti?

im als looking at those monitors (3440x1440 ips gsync but 120hz ) since above 144 it does not matter that much and I dont waanna spend 2000$ on a monitor and I planned on buying a 2080 but instead bought  used 1080ti last week for 450$ cheaper (in canadian rupes as would say linus) but plan to upgrade to a 2080ti during the summer or whenever the price goes down

I think 3440x1440 200 hz would be a little too much bandwidth, so most likely it uses Display Stream Correction or 4:2:2 chroma sub sampling (which the 4k 144 hz HDR displays use when set to 144 hz)

EDIT: Turns out wikipedia bandwidth numbers had some weird shenanigans so DP 1.4 actually supports over 30 gb/s so it should support it fine... Not 100% sure on HDR tho, but I think it should.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
