EDIT: solved thanks anyway guys

After using the steam link windows auto detected that i was getting low fps on the desktop (from the pc and link both being on wifi) and turned off windows aero now i'm haivng trouble getting it back on.
I have already done some googling and windows auto troubleshooter hasn't been able to fix it. I have also tried the regedit fix to no avail.

search windows performance on start and open. adjust and...

from there tick the boxes you want

they're all on but none of them are working.

Found an answer with more googling I must have accidentally switched to 16 bit color when changing the resolution which is why it wasn't working thanks anyway guys.
