Help me build my first pc!

So, I've recently started doing more pc gaming on my laptop but it's just not cutting it. I've never had a tower so I don't know where to start. Or how to get the most bang for the buck. 

 

My budget is about $1200 usd with some wiggle room. I'm mainly gonna use it for gaming. I will need a monitor/peripherals but I'm not including them in this budget.

I'm building a pc with the same budget, perhaps we can help each other out. I'm going for an i7 7700k, an asus z270 motherboard but I'm not sure which one yet since there are different ones. A GTX 1070 and that's pretty much the most important parts of the build , oh I forgot about the ram, it's 16GB.

You don't really need a 7700k with a 1070. You'd be fine with a R5 1600 or i5 7600k.

Why do you say that? And I also think that the i7 would be a better choice since, well it's just a better card overall. Are you talking about the price side of things?

Price side, and also the fact that Ryzen processors offer less variable fps, and a higher minimum framerate. Not to mention that the stock cooler is actually really good and can handle small overclocks, saving you anywhere between 50 and 200 dollars on a cooler.

Right, thanks for the reply. I always stayed away from Ryzen for some reason and I know nothing about it but I'll look into it.

I understand, I too was also a bit suspicious about Ryzen, considering that AMD isn't exactly the most successful company  But they really hit the nail on the head with Ryzen and I ended up switching from an i5 7600k to a R7 1700.

So this is a little above your budget but if you're lucky you'll be able to get some rebates. You can swap the mobo or 1070 for anything that you would prefer, these are just placeholders for your average price. Hope it helped
