Disk C:/ constantly at 100%

zPanic

Hi!

I'm not sure how long I've been having this problem, it only occured to me after Steam has been stuck in an update loop for long times on end for the past few days.

My HDD (C:/) is constantly at 100%, and I can't find the problem through Task Manager or basic troubleshooting.

My PC has been booting slowly lately (initial Windows boot is fast, but any other programs after seeing the desktop and taskbar are slow, e.g. Outlook 2013, Steam, Discord are slow)

I'm in no position financially to purchase myself a replacement SSD for a while, so I'd like to get this issue resolved to avoid having to upgrade.

Note:

  • My C:/ drive is my Windows Drive, and is a normal SATA hard drive (Toshiba, not sure about specifics, it came with the PC)
  • My D:/ drive is at 0% when not in use. This is a Samsung EVO 850 SSD at 250 GB. I bought this one later on, and don't want to lose data on my HDD to move Windows over.
  • Tried solutions from here, Methods 1-4.

Thank you for any help.

EDIT: Additional info; sometimes closing programs (tried closing task manager earlier) causes said program to freeze up and not respond for a while.

Chrome works fine, as does Discord right now, Steam doesn't (currently uninstalling to reinstall on my SSD) get past the "Updating steam, Extracting package" messages, and any other programs, once booted, work fine. Navigating through Windows Explorer is fine too, the usual loading, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Steam might just work fine after a reinstall, but I still don't think my disk should be at 100% literally constantly so I'd like to have it resolved.
