will the  H97M-E support this m.2 ssd ? https://www.wdc.com/products/solid-state-drives/wd-black-pcie-ssd.html#WDS512G1X0C

And can the motherboard boot windows from the m.2?

It will but not at the full rated speed because 9 series mother board can only supply gen 3x2 pcie lane to the SSD. The SSD need pcie 3x4 to work at it rated speed.

 

In short, yes it will work but not optimally.

same deal, to get the most out of your m.2 nvme drive, you need a 100 series chipset mobo
