Can I put a Virtual Hard Disk into a Zip file

I have two 8.5-9GB virtual hard disks that I want to compress and put onto a 16 GB jump drive. The VHDs have windows operating systems on them and are sysprepped, but I am wondering if I can put the two VHDs into a zip file to compress it down to below 16GB and if I do, will they be usable when extracted?

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum for this question, so feel free to move it if it is in the wrong area.

You can zip up any file. How much it will compress though is up in the air.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure that it won't corrupt the whole thing and make the whole endeavor pointless.
