FTP problems

Penny5837

I setup an FTP server on my local network.

My friends can connect with my external IP address, but I'm not able to connect with the external IP address or the local address of the server.

The server is running on a different machine, so for instance the local address I am using isn't localhost, but 10.0.0.2

Could it be a routing problem? Sometimes we have issues when local hosts are trying to reach the external address because it gets routed internally. Make sure you actually type in http://www.servername.ext. The way to combat this would be to add in a host record on your DNS.

It's an FTP server dude, you are supposed to write ftp://www.servername.ext

FTP=File Transfert Protocol

HTTP=Hyper Text Transfert Protocol
