Hi, I am thinking about getting PK-3 thermal paste, but I am worried about how to apply it. The manufacturer says to spread it, but from everything I have ever been taught, spreading it is terrible, and that the pea method is the best way.

What do you guys think.

Linus always recommends the uncooked grain of rice size

It isn't a requirement, but its not a terrible thing, it should come with an applicator/spreader and will ensure the entire processor is covered in thermal compound, meaning more heat dissipation, as long as your spreader is clean it is the best way to achieve maximum cooling potential however minimal it might be.

 

TLDR its fine, potentially better performance using a spreader, do pea if you want.

Use the pea method it will prevent air bubbles, I've done the spread method before and it works but will trap some air bubbles.

Sounds like older style of instructions. That was more common way to apply bit over 10 years ago.
