970 strix VRM is ridiculously hot

Wes24

Alright so I was playing guild wars 2 tonight and noticed on AIDA64 my vrm temperatures were up to 100c, sometimes 110c but no higher than that. I really don't think this is normal, what's going on with my card? what are your guys's vrm temperatures under load if you own a strix? thanks.

I'm using an h440 with a corsair h105 radiator in the front of the case blowing air in towards the video card. Is it possible this is causing these temperatures? My gpu temps don't really go above 70c by the way.

No that is not a problem. But the vram temps should be a lot lower. Normal is 70-80 C. Just like the temp of your gpu.

well depending on your cpu and load the air coming towards the gpu might be hot but not THAT hot.

Noted ... I forgot to mention in the OP I had a pretty mild overclock running, but just now I reverted back to default clock speeds and ran heaven for about 2 minutes and saw the vrm temp at 98c, it was still climbing. Would you guys really recommend an rma? I don't get any crashes or artifacting in games ..it's just these dang temps. I'm starting to question whether or not they're accurate.

apparently everyone abandoned the thread. Did some quick search

VRMs are fine over 90°C however under 85°C is desired. MSI did the best job on their vrm cooling whereas Asus and EVGA kinda fucked it up.

I'd say get a ticket on Asus' website and ask what they think. i personally think 110°C seems like something is wrong

Yeah, well it is getting late. :P. Dang it really sucks that some of the manufacturers skimped on their vrm cooling :\. thanks for all your help though guys, i'm gonna try and reach out to Asus in the morning.
