Laying the Carbide Air 540 On Its Side?

Tldefazio

Hey everyone, it's my first post and wanted to say upfront, thanks for checking out my question. I'm planning a new build (well - old build, new case) and had a question with the Carbide Air 540. I've seen pictures of it laying on its side with the side window positioned at the top. This basically means that the motherboard is on the bottom and all components are then angled "vertically". Is this a safe thing to do? I really like how it looks but if it will ruin my hardware then obviously I want to rethink it. Thanks for your time! My specs are listed below:

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4

CPU: Intel i7-3770K

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X 16GB

GPU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G 2-Way SLI

Power Supply: Corsair HX850

SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Pro 128GB

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

After-Market Fans: Corsair AF140x1, AF120x3, SP120x2

A fair bit of mini-ITX cases have it like this. I assume you mean that the front of the motherboard, with all the slots and what not, will be facing up? This is actually a good thing (No GPU sag, no CPU heatsink falling down, etc)

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Yep that is correct! I was mainly concerned with the hard drive and water cooling. I wasn't sure of "best practices" when it comes to having the hard drive mounted vertically.

Yeah your build Will fit. And corsair made the case in a way that You can put it on it's side.

One thing I overlooked... The PSU vent is on the side that would be facing down. I would assume I'd need some sort of elevation for it so it can vent?

(Essentially the HX850 would be upside down with the fan on the bottom.)

Ah, I'm working with mobile right now so I didn't realize there was an edit button, thanks for the heads up! Yeah I'll have to check the Home Depot tonight to see if there's something I can utilize. It'll be a fun project either way :)

They didn't really make it in that way.

Putting it on the side poses a few issues. The first is that you will inevitably scratch the side panel. The second is that you have to look at the ugly bottom of the case occasionally (though TBH, it's not a big issue.) And third, you will smother the PSU unless you sort out some way of putting feet on the side.

I have one, I tried it. It worked well for a while, but it's definitely less than preferable. But it can be done easily.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Lian Li SP 850W

Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial DDR4 Pro | Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS AC-HES | Storage: 128GB Samsung PM961, 4TB Seagate IronWolf | GPU: AMD FirePro WX 3100 | Cooling: EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM-850

Miscellaneous: Dell Optiplex 7060 Micro (i5-8500T/16GB/512GB), Lenovo ThinkCentre M715q Tiny (R5 2400GE/16GB/256GB), Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF (i5-6400/8GB/128GB)

Thanks for the heads up! I may have to just keep it upright. Is there a recommended space that the PSU fan needs in order to properly ventilate?

Oh, i thought you could put the feet anywhere you wanted? This is the case for the air 240

My mistake :/
