Can I use an SSD on as Asus M4A88T-M Motherboard?

NotSoHonestAbe

My primary boot drive is an 80GB hard drive using an IDE ribbon cable, and it's pretty awful. I'm looking to upgrade to an SSD, but with all this sata 2 and sata 3 stuff, I really don't know what to do. Could I use an SSD on my asus m4a88t-m motherboard?

Yes you can use a ssd on that motherboard, no it will not be sata 3(6gb/s)

the board only has 6 sata 2(3gb/s) ports.

you can still buy a sata 3(6gb/s) ssd, but it will only run at the max of sata2(3gb/s)

either way it would be a heck of a lot quicker then IDE

I really don't like the look of the ribbon cable though. I'll get an SSD. What capacity SSD should I get for Windows 7 home premium 32 bit?

Depends, how much data do you have and do you want to store it all on an SSD? Most people go with 60, 120 or 256gb boot disks. My usual list of suspects in no particular order are: Intel 330 and 520, Samsung 830 and 840Pro, Crucial M4's and Sandisk Extreme's.. Some are more expensive than others but that's because they're faster. If I were you; Intel 330.

If you really want Sata 3 (6Gb/s) You could look into a PCI-E SATA Adapter, If your board supports it, If you just want an SSD to use, a 120GB SSD should be just fine unless you want something bigger then by all means get that.

I'm looking for a really good, but super cheap SSD, and I will only be storing windows on it, I have 1TB hdd for storage. And since my mobo has no Sata III, I'll get a sata II SSD.

Out of these, which is the best?

You can better use onboard sata300 channels then a pci-e 1x controller which is slower then sata600 and even sata 300. My advice just get a cheap samsung 840 and put it on your onboard sata300 and you will be fine. With a pci-e 1x controller you have problems booting and it performance bad

It was just a suggestion and just an example I'm sure you could buy MUCH better cards,
