Game Latency Crash

I have a external drive that stores all my games on it on a usb 3.0 connector. Sometimes the game crashes for no reson. once i got a BSOD that pointed me in the direction that it was a drive latency issue! should i load games onto my internal ssd or is it a driver problem?

Speakers: Old sony speakers w/ integrated headphone amp
