i5-3570K vs i7-3770K

Well multiple reasons.

  • Thread count
  • Cache amount
  • higher clock speeds

Are the 3 main reasons.

Is getting a i5-3570k or a i7-3770k worth it? I would be using it for more gaming than anything else. I have found a 40$ i5-3570k and i7-3770ks are around $70-$80 and I am not sure if the tiny performance difference is worth it. And no I can not get a different motherboard currently and I need a LGA 1155 socket CPU. I was also looking at XEON options and didn't know if those would be better or not. Responses are appreciated!

If you have games that need more than 4 cores, get the i7 with HT.

Isn't the i7 up to 30% faster in multi-threaded tasks?  Not sure I'd call that a "tiny" performance difference.

I guess its not twice as fast for twice the price, but then that's never how CPU pricing works anyway.

You also do not mention what you are using it for.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

I did state that I would be using it for mostly gaming.

I'm so blind, I read your post about three times and saw that the first time then missed it the second and third when I checked to make sure I read it right. :/

Anyway, what games, what GPU, etc, is all relevant.

Modern games tend to run better with more threads available, but some games are more single-threaded, so the difference can vary.

I am using a rx 590 and just got into the VR territory. Also some triple A-ish games like Jedi: Fallen Order and also casual/competitive games like minecraft, rainbow six siege, and Civilization VI. So some pretty demanding and then some not very demanding. I also have 16gb RAM.
