Wifi Router VS Modem

Royboibtw

Hi I was wondering what is the difference between a wifi router and a modem.]

I currently have a telus wifi plan and I am able to use wifi, there is like a blocky thing that I think is a modem, would it help if I got a router too?

What you have then is a modem/router/wireless access point. Combo

Modem is the device which transforms signal coming from phone line or cable or anything else to LAN/WLAN connection your devices use. Modern modems have functionality to act as routers and Wifi stations. Meaning that they have few extra ethernet ports and wifi antenna.
